FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
What to Know About Sports Orthotics
When do I need orthopedic insoles for sports?
Over time, almost all hobby or professional athletes develop some sort of overuse injury or pain in muscles, tendons, bands, or joints (depending on intensity, fitness level, age, weight). The causes are very individual. These can range from axial or foot misalignments to muscular imbalances, improper technique, etc. The combination of the right sports shoes, fitting orthopedic insoles as well as strength and training exercises have been proven to reduce pain and improve muscular exertion. For an individual assessment, a movement and gait analysis should be carried out in-person at one of the IETEC Partner Retailers that has been trained in our own academy.
What effect should insoles have during exercise?
Sports insoles support the foot and lower body during all phases of a movement. They provide performance- and sport-specific foot care and are customized using fitting materials and variations. The biomechanical movement analysis takes the individual athlete’s anatomy into account and serves as the basis for conceptualizing the insoles. Thanks to their special construction and the use of specific modules, movecontrol orthotics have a proven therapeutic effect.
Will sport orthotics improve my performance?
A direct link between wearing orthopedic insoles and improved performance has not been proven. But, less pain and improved muscular control can reduce or shorten training interruptions due to injuries and thus indirectly improve your performance in this manner. Regardless of the type of sport, orthotics can have certain performance benefits. For cyclists, for example, rigid carbon insoles can improve the transmission of force to the pedals.
